Help!

Track List History
  1. Yes It Is: Written by John, this song is merely a re-write of "This Boy" because it consists of the same chords, harmony, and double-dutch words. It was released in April 1965.

  2. I'm Down: This is a unshamed attempt by Paul to write a Little Richard type of song. It is a three chord song, but stil difficult. It was used to close shows during their 1965 and 1966 tours.

  3. Help!: John and Paul wrote it at Paul's Weybridse home in April 1965. It reflected John's dissatisfaction with himself because he was eating and drinking too much. It was their first serious attempt to use more than one syllable words. It reached number one in Britain and America in 1965.

  4. The Night Before: This song was written before the screen play and its subject is the regret over a lost love. Paul filmed this song while being surrounded by troups and tanks on Salisbury Plain. It was recorded in Febuary 1965.

  5. You've Got To Hide Your Love Away: The first few lines protray the image of John standing head in hand with his face to the wall. It shows how he felt when he was writing it. This is a song about relationships that have gone wrong and John's hidden feeling for a girl he has lost. Written by John at Kenwood, it was used in the film duing the scene in which the British Actor Eleanor Bron visited the group in the terraced house in an attempt ot get the ring.

  6. I Need You: This love song, written by George for his girlfriend Pattie Boyd, was the only George song to be featured in the film Help! It was the first song to use a wah-wah pedal to distort the guitar sound.

  7. Another Girl: Written by Paul, it was used in a scene filmed on Balmoral Island in the Bahamas. In this song, Paul talks about being under pressure to committ long-term to his girlfriend and how he won't do it because he has another girl.

  8. You're Going To Lose That Girl: It was sung in a scene set in the recording studio, which was actually filmed at Twickenham Film Studios. Written mainly by John as a warning to a unidentified male that if he doesn't start treating his girlfriend right, he (John) is gonna move in on her.

  9. Ticket To Ride: Writte by John as a single, it was the first Beatles song to feature an insistent, changing riff underpinned by a heavy drum beat. Used during the Austrian snow scenes in the movie, it topped the charts by the movie's release. This song about a girl taking a ride outta John's life was released as a single in April 1965.

  10. Tell Me What You See: Another "work" song by Paul who asks his girl to give her heart to him because he isn;t trusty worthy and will brighten his life. It was recorded before the filiming of Help and because Dick Lester didn't like what he heard it wasn't put on the movie soundtrack.

  11. You Like Me Too Much: Written and recorded by George, this song is the standard love song. It describes how having been jilted, a lover feels everything will turn out in the end because the girl loves him too much.

  12. It's Only Love: This song is a upbeat number and full of cliched rhymes and images. Despite it being written by John, it was one of the few Beatles songs he actually hated.

  13. I've Just Seen A Face: Paul had been playing this tune on the piano for some time at family get togethers. It was his Auntie Gin's favorite.
  14. Yesterday: Paul woke up one morning with this song in his head. He had a piano near the bed and started to play. The complete song was in his head and at that point it was just music and no lyrics. Paul worried it was plagiarized and asked around if people had heard it before. He used the working title "Scrambled Eggs," and began to sing "Scrambled eggs, oh you've got such lovely legs." After taking a brief holiday in Portugal at the villa of Shadows, guitarist Bruce Welch helped him complete the lyrics. It was titled with one word and featured a string quartet and Paul only. It was recorded at Abbey Road and after 30 years is still one of the most played tracks in America.

*** The following songs were mentioned were written by the Beatles. Other songs may be included on the album and not mentioned.***
