With The Beatles

Track List History
  1. From Me to You: The Beatles third single was written on Feb. 28,1963 while travelling by coach from York to Shrewsbury on the Helen Shapiro tour. It was a combination of Paul and John's ideas. It was Paul's dad that convinced them that it was a "nice little tune." The title was suggested by From You to Us, the letters column in the weekly pop newspaper New Musical Express. Few of the Beatles greatest hits were built entirely from scratch together. This songs great gimmick was the use of the high pitched "ooh". It was almost not recorded because of its very bluesy sound. In April 1963 it became the Beatles second number one hit in Britain, but failed to make it into the top 40 in America.

  2. Thank You Girl: This song was originally titled "Thank You Little Girl" and was written as a follow up to Please, Please Me. Later on in 1971, John dimissed it as a silly song. Its one of the Beatles efforts of writing a single that didn't work.

  3. She Loves You: Even though they had already taken the number one spot in Britain twice in 1963, it was 'She Loves You' that took them all the way. The sales outdid anything before. In Britain it stayed in the top 20 from August 1963 to February 1964. In America it became a hit after 'I want to Hold your Hand'. With its driving beat, fine harmonizing, and famous "yeah, yeah, yeah" tag, it was a sure hit. It was written by John and Paul in Newcastle after playing the Majestic Ballroom on June 26,1963. The first three singles had been declarations of love with the wrod me in the title, but Paul had the idea of removing themselves and writing about love between two other people. At first sight this song is about reconciliation. The writer offers to patch up the broken relationship by passing a message, "she told me what to say", and offering counsel, "apologize to her."

  4. I'll Get You: Composed by Paul and John as a follower to 'From Me to You', its reflective lyrics were mainly from John. It's one of the earliest songs to show John's belief in visualization, where by imagining things, they can become reality. It was released in America as a single in 1963 and in 1964, but never made the pop charts.

  5. It Won't Be Long: The albums opening track was written by John as a possible follow up to 'She Loves You'. This song is possible the story of Johns early life. Thelma mcGough who dated John after his mother died, believe that John's songs of rejection weren't based on broken romances but the fact that his father had left him as a child and then his mother had left him with her sister to be brought up.

  6. All I've Got to Do: All songs on this album were written by John and Paul specifically for it. However, this song was written completely by John in 1961. This song was an attempt to do Smokey Robinson again.

  7. All My Loving: This song was composed by Paul when he was shaving one day. It started out as a poem and music was not added until the poem was completly written. It was the first song he had written where the words came before the music. Jane Asher, a young artist, was to be the most well known of all Paul's girlfriends. His move into her parents home on Wimpole Street, would cause a significant change in him. It helped broaden Paul's horizon and turn affected his song writing ability. Jane Asher would prove to be the motivation behind a good deal of Paul's love songs.

  8. Little Child: The lyrics are about a sad and lonely boy who wants a girl to take a chance on him. It was another song written for somebody, "probably Ringo." This was the start of a period where the Beatles were asked to write songs for other artists.

  9. Don't Bother Me: This was the first song by George ever to be recorded. It was written in August 1963 at the Palace Court Hotel in Bournemouth. George was sick in bed, so maybe that was why it was title 'Don't Bother Me.'
  10. Hold Me Tight: This song was originally recorded for the first album, but it was not used. Written by Paul, it shows the unfluence of the Shirelles, a New Jersey voal group who in 1961 became the first all girl group to make Number One.
  11. I Wanna Be Your Man: Paul composed this basic 4 chord number with Ringo in mind.
*** The following songs mentioned were written by the Beatles. Other songs may be included on the album and not mentioned.***
